It has always been the goal of the wood industry to make its supply chain increasingly virtuous, and this July another step was taken in this direction. Glued wood processing waste (glulam/xlam/etc.) has finally been converted from waste to “glued” wood waste by-products as per the legislative change in the Consolidated Environmental Act. But what does this entail? As has already been implemented for years by other EU countries, it is finally possible to use waste as biofuels, and there is thus finally a legislative framework harmonized with what is provided in the rest of the EU. This result was only possible thanks to the work of Federlegnoarredo, which in 2015 launched an experimental activity that aimed to compare in terms of emissions from combustion processes, solid wood and engineered elements obtained by gluing.
